The Café at Matakohe House is open 7 days for morning and afternoon teas and delicious lunches. Café seating is available inside and outside on the covered verandah. Home cooked foods include soup, quiche, panini, salads, pies, savouries, sandwiches, sweet slices, date scones, muffins, cake, and teas and espresso coffee by Illy. The Cafe is fully licensed and evening meals are available to B&B guests at a very affordable price. Cyber Cafe facilities are available in the Cafe. 
On-site attractions: Matakohe House includes the Kauri Bush Art Gallery, a stand alone wooden building with iron roof and a verandah. The Gallery is unoccupied, at present, but is ideal as a studio gallery for local artists. 
The business also has a Golf Driving Range and clubs for hire. The Range building has 6 covered tees and is constructed on a plywood floor with plywood walls on three sides and a sloped iron roof and features a fully enclosed "shop area". Matakohe is a small, historic, village just off Highway 12 (clearly signposted), the main highway from Auckland to Dargaville. Matakohe offers "New Zealand Heritage" at its best with the world famous Kauri Museum depicting the mighty kauri tree and faithfully charting the history of the area and its people with magnificent displays and historic memorabilia. The museum is largest under-cover attraction in Northland and about 100,000 people visit every year. Matakohe is also famous for being the home of the first NZ-born Prime Minister, Gordon Coates. The village has numerous historic buildings including the Coates Memorial Church and there is also a community hall, a primary school, and good secondary schooling nearby.
