About Otaki
Otaki is the northern gateway to the Kapiti coast. It is a small community which extends from State Highway 1 to its west coast beach. The beach is a safe surf beach backed by sand dunes and also good for fishing. Boats can also be launched from the beach. Inland from the town is Otaki Forks, the main western entrance to the Tararua Ranges. There are picnic and river swimming areas in this attractive spot and several bushwalks. It is also an access point for the longer tramping tracks which lead into the ranges. Kayaking and rafting adventures operate on the Otaki River.
