Shingle Creek is a country Pub nestled in the heart of Central Otago.
The site was established as a hotel to provide hospitality to travellers and goldminers as early as 1866, and evidence and artifacts of the early mining activity now adorns the restaurant walls.

Situated on State Highway 8, the main road from Dunedin through to Queenstown and Wanaka, halfway between the towns of Roxburgh and Alexandra, Shingle Creek provides a welcome stop-off for travellers, both tourist and local. Settled into the rugged hillside at the base of the Old Man Range overlooking the spectacular schist formations of the Knobbly range, providing a breathtaking outlook to enjoy your dining experience by. the two acre site compiles of various historic and utility outbuildings, with potential for backpacker style accomodation and the main building itself has self contained living quarters.

Completely refurbished in August 2000, the historical significance and friendly atmosphere has been captured by the extensive use of recycled materials, the most famous being the huge schist, open fire place, whose roaring flames provide very warm welcome to visitors on those cold winter nights in central otago.

Open for business 6 days a week, comprising of tues through Sunday the highway location sees a great range of interesting travellers and tourists. the hours are 11am til 9pm.

On those warm sunny central days the outside setting of the garden area has been greatly popular with many diners eating outside enjoying the view and the welcome refreshments.

Shingle Creek has been enjoying a successful upturn over the past two years, since current owners Marilyn and Alister Brown and daughter Deanne whose professional approach and friendly manner have turned it around from a business to a lifestyle venture. You can do the same!
