Bakery Business For Sale
Hawera, New Zealand

Frasers cakes and pies - everyone loves them
Frasers Cake Centre in Hawera sells a great selection of cakes, pies and buns.
The owner, Sean Cullinan, is a craftsman baker. Customers come from near and far for his sponges and this is the only bakery in the lower North Island that makes sponge drops and cream horns.
Frasers Cake Centre has been trading in Hawera for over 50 years. The business was started by Peter Fraser in 1951, his son Ian started in 1962, and the present owner took over in 2001. A whole generation of Hawera residents have grown up with Frasers Cake Centre. In fact, Sean Cullinan's pies are so well liked that locals refer to them as "Frasers Pies".
The reasons for the success of Frasers Cake Centre are clear. Customers want an artisan product that has been made from the freshest ingredients using traditional methods. They want a product that has been fresh baked that day because they know that it will be simply delicious. Sean still uses the same successful recipes that were used in the business over 50 years ago. He even makes his own baking powder to be absolutely sure that the highest quality products come from his ovens.

Frasers Cake Centre comprises a front retail shop opening on to Hawera's main street and a rear bakery. The spacious bakery has well-maintained equipment that is organised for easy working conditions.
At present, the business is showing a gross profit of 77% of retail turnover. Hawera has a buoyant economy based mainly around the dairy industry. Local consumer spending is above average and the business's turnover is likely to increase further as more and more people come to Hawera for employment. Turnover could also be increased by extending the hours of trading to include weekends. In addition, there is scope to grow the business by baking for the wholesale market.
This well-known retail bakery business has come on to the market because the owner has declining health and has to consider his early retirement. Frasers Cake Centre would ideally suit a husband wife team with one operating the bakery and the other managing the retail shop. This cash business is being sold as a "walk-in walk-out" going concern and it comes with proven recipes and trained staff. The new owner need not be a Certified Baker but some bakery experience would be preferred.
If you have a good work ethic and appreciate the nuances of artisan baking, then consider what Frasers Cake Centre has to offer.
Scrumptious, freshly cooked bakery products Frasers Cake Centre sells a great selection of:
- Pies, cakes, and buns,
- Sponges, sponge drops, cream horns and much more
One of the bakery secrets is to use an overnight bun dough because it gives better results than a "no-time" dough.

Frasers Cake Centre does brisk business during morning and afternoon tea times and during the lunch hour. Customers, both young and old, come from all over town and many place their order by telephone for later collection. Staff from the Central Business District are so regular with their orders that Sean can bake extra product for them knowing that they will be popping in at some time during the day.

Hawera, located 72 km south-west of New Plymouth, is the largest of several South Taranaki towns that grew to support the Taranaki farming industry, notably dairying. Hawera has a rich cultural history and many buildings have been carefully preserved, including the War Memorial Arch, The Penfold Post Box and the Water Tower. Original blockhouses, redoubts, monuments and well-preserved pa sites tell of early Maori life and the Maori-European Land wars.
Hawera has a population of over 10,000 people and is renowned as a friendly town that caters to all age groups. The dairy industry is a huge influence in Hawera and Fonterra operates a massive dairy factory on the outskirts of the town. Hawera also has a large freezing works (PPS) and both of these industries are major employers. The buoyant local economy means more jobs, new businesses, and new housing estates. Other new enterprises include a new Pack'n'Save supermarket and a new multi-sports complex that will cater for all indoor and outdoor sports.
Hawera has long-established clubs for bowls, tennis, croquet, swimming and golf. The Egmont Racing Club has an excellent track in Hawera and there is scope for surf and sunbathing at neighbouring Ohawe Beach. The slopes of Mount Taranaki/Egmont are only 32 km away, offering mountaineering, skiing and hiking.
