Rotorua New Zealand

Scholes Gallery
9 Tryon St. Whakarewarewa, Rotorua, New Zealand
Purchased and renamed to Scholes Gallery by Eric Scholes in 1962, the business is currently owned by Michael & Sue Scholes. Michael has been involved in the business since 1969 and feels it is now time to move on. There is plenty of opportunity for somebody with enthusiasm to further develop this shop. There has been a retail outlet within the building since 1934 and has only had four owners in all that time.
Situated across the road from the Park Heritage Hotel www.parkheritagerotorua.nz-hotels.com/ next door to Quest Rotorua www.questrotorua.co.nz and 100 metres from the entrance to the famous Whakarewarewa Thermal Village – www.whakarewarewa.com

Products / Services
This business is a Rotorua icon catering for both international and domestic visitors as well as having a strong local following. The shop has established a reputation for selling quality NZ inspired gifts and delivering a high standard of service. A wide variety of products make up the stock; including the tourist collectable, clothing, greenstone, paua shell, Maori carving, glass and ceramics just to name a few.
This is a unique shop; from the unique exterior to the individual style and product displayed within a character building that make it stand out from other shopping experiences.

The exterior of the shop offers a unique eye catching frontage. Far removed from the average shop exterior. The building still retains all the characteristics of a 1930’s building.
The shop interior still has the high stud and panelled ceiling. The floors are either coloured washed concrete or polished native floorboards. The interior has had a recent redecorate with new counters and other shop fittings been added. Some of the existing display fixtures are collectable in their own right. This includes a colonial kauri table, large trunks and a wonderful curved glass cabinet. This all adds to the atmosphere of the interior.
The retail space is 196m2 and storage of 35m2. The storage includes the original kitchen, office and toilet. It also has a 33m2 veranda area which can be used to display products, signs etc.
