Argyle Freehold Hotel Business For Sale
Hunterville, New Zealand

Argyle Hotel freehold business New Zealand private sale

Good food and hospitality in relaxed comfortable surroundings

The Argyle Hotel in Hunterville is a well-known landmark on State Highway One.

This is a recently refurbished, well-presented, provincial hotel with back-to-back bars and accommodation. Because of its purpose-built layout, the Argyle is an easy hotel for a husband-wife partnership.

Revenue comes mainly from meals, alcohol sales, accommodation, snacks, takeaways, coffees and tobacco products. Other income is generated from The Lions Club, who hold their meetings (including dinner) at the Argyle Hotel every 4th Monday of the month, and from bookings for functions.

Hunterville is one of the major stops between Wellington and Auckland for meals, takeaways, snacks and coffees. The Argyle Hotel is famous for its homemade pies and burgers. The hotel also provides comfortable accommodation for travellers.

In the last three years, the current owners have refurbished and revived the Argyle Hotel. Enclosed front decking was opened in November 2005 and has become very popular with the local community via word of mouth recommendations.

There is still plenty of scope to increase this business by developing and promoting the accommodation. There is also the opportunity to offer outside catering and to develop the space currently used as a gym into a backpacker accommodation. The potential backpacker block has an entrance verandah, three bedrooms, separate shower and toilet, and a utilities room.

The beer garden is an ongoing project with improvements made in 2005 that made it a success in the summer for outdoor dining and afternoon teas.

About Hunterville

Hunterville is a small town in the Rangitikei region with a big heart on the main North-South highway linking Wellington and Auckland. It is located 50 km north of Palmerston North, 35 km south of Mangaweka, and 5 km west of the Rangitikei River. The area is noted for its lush river valleys and hillside landscapes.

Hunterville is the commercial centre for the surrounding Rangitikei rural area. Local farms produce mainly sheep, cattle, and deer but there is increasing amounts of farm forestry. The town is also a busy refuelling stop for highway travellers who buy petrol, food and drink. The Argyle Hotel is just a few metres from either of the two service stations.

In October, the Hunterville Huntaway Festival celebrates the ‘Huntaway’, a dog breed widely used in New Zealand for working with sheep and cattle on farms. This fun day includes a dog barking competition, pig yarding, speed shearing, wine tasting and numerous other activities as well as a ‘Shemozzle’. Dog and owner have to complete a course that includes, among other things, a pie for the dog and a beer for the owner, and finishes with the dog riding down the road in a wheelbarrow pushed by it’s owner. The event ends with evening of entertainment in a marquee which is furnished with a bar and dance floor and also at the Argyle. This is a fun-filled weekend for the whole family with genuine Hunterville hospitality.

The Rangitikei River Loop Cycle Classic is an enjoyably challenging 92 km bike ride around the very scenic Rangitikei River. The race starts and finishes in Hunterville, it is organised by the Hunterville Lions as a fund raiser for the community. Hunterville has a resident pipe band - the Rangitikei Scots formed in 1923 which supports local events in the region as well as competing nationally in competitions - be here on a Monday night to hear them practise. For horse lovers there are a number of show jumping events throughout the region.
