Motueka and Abel Tasman National Park

Motueka (population 7125) on the western side of the Tasman Bay is the third-largest town in the Nelson Province. The Motueka area enjoys a mild climate with high sunshine hours, ideal for growing hops, tobacco, apples and a range of other temperate and subtropical fruits.

Motueka is a vibrant, friendly and cosmopolitan town. Abel Tasman National Park attracts many thousands of visitors each year, all of whom have to pass though the town. This visitor trade helps to support Motueka’s commerce, especially accommodation businesses, supermarkets, an extensive array of shops, potters, artisans, and amazing cafes.

Kaiteriteri Beach, just outside Motueka on the shore of Tasman Bay, is one of New Zealand's most magnificent beaches. Kaiteriteri is a holiday mecca for New Zealanders and visitors alike. Water taxis and sea kayak trips leave from Kaiteirteri for the Abel Tasman National Park.

The Abel Tasman National Park is renowned for its golden beaches, sculptured granite cliffs, and world-famous Abel Tasman Coast Track. It enjoys a mild climate and is a good place to visit at any time of the year. There are many sheltered coves that can only be reached by boat or sea kayaking. Many visitors also visit the more isolated and rugged Kahurangi National Park.
