Tawatawa Lodge – a unique freehold property

The owners are selling the freehold title to land (15 acres) and buildings at 82 Opoutere Road, about 14 km north of Whangamata on the Coromandel Peninsula. The property borders the Tawatawa Stream and is a short distance from the Wharekawa Harbour.

The property provides:

  • An imposing driveway avenue of poplars fringed with native grasses.

The Lodge offers four beautifully appointed themed rooms, each with private spa baths and private courtyards. All rooms have tea and coffee facilities, bar fridge, TV and DVD, internet access. Guests also have access to a laundry.

The Persian Room
This room is lavishly furnished with a king-size four poster bed, a Chaise Lounge, and a claw bath that is mounted on a marble plinth, flanked by Corinthian columns, and draped to exude opulence and romance. The en suite has bronze vanity basin, feature marble wall and twin showers.

The Kauri Room
With queen-size bed and unique kauri timber vanity unit and bedhead. The vanity basin was handcrafted in Phuket for the owners to complement the Kauri vanity bench.

The Italian Room
This room features Italian stone tiles, a marble vanity unit, and a wrought iron queen size bed imported especially for the owners. A Leonardo of Vitruvio frescoe adorns one wall. All bed linen for this room was purchased from Bologna.

The Rimu Room
This suite has a queen size bed and a unique rimu timber vanity unit and bedhead. The vanity unit of stone complements the richness of the timber.

Guest Foyer, Conservatory, Lounge and Dining Room

A foyer, a spacious conservatory, a lounge, and a dining room are positioned in the central section of the Lodge, between the four themed guest rooms and the owner’s wing. Special features found in this area include two large and impressive frescoes by Marainni Affresci in Brescia, glass bricks from Poesia in Venice that are built into strategic walls, and hand-made Italian Michaelangelo Tiles that highlight the décor in the large kitchen. Then there is kauri panelling in the passageway, rata timber that lines the library … the list goes on and on.

Conservatory - with an extensive glass ceiling and Bifold doors that open out onto decks, open dining areas, lawns and views. An ideal place for casual entertaining.
Lounge - complete with library and large screen television, has an open fire and wall seats with deep cushions. The lounge can be closed off for small conferences and meetings.
Formal dining room - with its huge table, full length windows and ceiling Italian frescoe. A wine cellar opens off the dining room.
Kitchen – the large kitchen has state of the art appliances and Michelangelo Tiles.

A complete list of all fittings, fixtures and chattels being sold is available. Items include:

  • All quality furniture including lounge suites, coffee tables, and dining tables and chairs.

  • All artworks, wall decorations, carpet floor coverings, light fittings electronic surveillance.

Business Hours:
Monday to Sunday – as required to meet guest schedules.

Staff:
Tawatawa Lodge is operated by the two owners – no other staff are employed.

Stock:
Stock will comprise wines valued about $1000.

Customer Database:
A customer database will be part of the business sale along with a stock of brochures.

Advertising and Promotion:
Tawatawa Lodge is a member of the International Marketing group and attends Trade Promotions held by the Tourism Industry. Other guests come from advertisements placed in Travel Guides and at I-Sites, and from Travel Agents. The business owns and maintains www.tawatawa.co.nz for internet bookings via a secure reservation form.

Whangamata and the Coromandel Peninsula

There is much to see and do near Tawatawa Lodge including kayaking on the Wharekawa Harbour, glow worms, and bush walks. Opoutere beach is 10 minutes by car - popular for swimming and surfing. Also nearby are a number of spectacular and historic bush walks and the Luck at Last gold mine ruins.

Whangamata is recognised as one of the most popular beach resorts in New Zealand. The ocean beach has a famous surfing break and the harbour has many sport boats rigged for big game fishing in the open Pacific Ocean. The township has one of the best shopping centres in the region, along with a unique café culture. Whangamata offers a range of sporting facilities including a golf course (9 and 18 hole courses) and a swimming pool. The area also hosts a variety of arts and crafts studios that display sculptures, paintings, weaving and pottery.

The Coromandel Peninsula is a short hour and a half drive from Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga.
