Motueka and Nelson Province
Motueka (population 7125) is located on the western side of the Tasman Bay, near the mouth of the Motueka River and Tasman Bay. Motueka is the third-largest town in the Nelson Province with accommodation businesses, supermarkets, an extensive array of shops, and amazing cafes. Most live here because of the mild climate and high sunshine hours, ideal for growing hops, tobacco, apples and a range of other temperate and subtropical fruits.
Motueka is the nearest town to the world famous Abel Tasman National Park with its golden beaches, sculptured granite cliffs, and Coast Track. Motueka is also close to Kaiteriteri Beach, one of New Zealand's most magnificent beaches and a favourite summer holiday destination.
There are many sheltered coves around the Abel Tasman National Park that can only be reached by boat or sea kayaking. Water taxis and sea kayak trips ply from Kaiteirteri for the Abel Tasman National Park.
