The studio units have been added more recently. All units have the usual motel appointments and guests have facilities expected of moteliers. |

In reality, guests do not have to travel much around the area as there are plenty of activities and tourism operators within walking distance. However having said that some of the more remote areas draw tourists and locals alike for their rugged beauty. Seeing the sun rise from the sea and again setting into the awesome Tasman Sea the West Coast is a highlight for many. Another spectacle visitors from all corners of the globe travel so far is the 36 km long sand spit. |

Farewell Spit is home to some 90 species of birds during the summer months. Local operators take tours to the spit in special four-wheel drive vehicles A trip which is never the same two days running. |

Just nearby is where New Zealand’s first gold rush started in 1857. Today the area is host to a number of industries, farming being the mainstay for many years.
