Tauranga, and the coast that has it all
|
|
|
|
|
|
Situated on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island, Tauranga is
the largest town along the Pacific Coast Highway with a population of
approximately 90,000. The city is the
main commercial centre for the Bay of Plenty and offers a
huge range of attractions, recreational pursuits,
and some fine restaurants, cafes and award wining wines.
Tauranga is surrounded on the western side by the Kaimai Ranges and
to
the east by Tauranga Harbour. Across the harbour are the sparkling
white sandy beaches of Mt Maunganui and Papamoa, some
of New Zealand's best surf beaches.
There is no shortage of adrenalin pumping activities in the Bay of Plenty. On offer are bungee rockets, parachuting, sky diving,
parasailing, micro lighting, white water rafting, jet boating, fishing,
diving and dirt track luge.
The Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park forms the backdrop to Tauranga. This
very accessible wilderness area has multi-day tramping and mountain
bike routes for the adventurous and also a selection of short day
walks.
